Recent Tech. developments

How about that new Gigabyte 6600 GT graphics card. It has 2 chips on 1 card. Amazing! Too bad it is only sold w/ a certain Mobo for $600, which isn't too bad. Also, it isn't SLI compatiple.
Also, AMD has a new Mobile Athlon 64. Hopefully, they will get a better response than the last 1. Their Dual-Core chips have been acknowlegded by Microsoft, Red Hat Linux, Sun Microsystems, and Novell. They'll work in their server edition x64 Os's. The consumer level CPU will arrive in the Second Half of 2004, hopefully, near the beginning of it.
Also, the latest X700 from Saphire is a 3 slot cooling solution (it touches the edge of larger PCI cards, eg, the Audigy 2). Either they wanted you to overclock it or they used inferior materials to cool it.
And, Intel has screwed itself by preparing to release a dual core
Prescott solution. As if 1 Prescott chip wasn't hot enough. At least they an EE solution, too (so I've heard). They also support 64-bit tech, via AMD's code.
Apparently, Intel has used its monopoly rights too much. The Japanese Fair Trade Commision (JFTC) has found that Intel made 1 manufacturer sell 100% to its customers' and another to restrict the sales of other CPU's to less than 10%. And, these w/ 3 others, made up 77% of Japan's CPU sales, thereby preventing AMD to effictively sell its CPU's.

why would anyone stick with single core if they had the choice to upgrade to a faster dual core where the cost wouldn't be any more expensive than upgrading to a faster single core?

Unfortunatley, you'll have to wait a long time for that.

The computer game I love the most is Enemy Territory....and I have maxed its settings with Athlon 64 3000 and Sapphire 9600XT....I wont upgrade until I have some applications that run heaps better with Dual Core.

I would like to beef up my SCSI storage system by going to 74GB Atlas 15K II...to me that is more enticing than dual core...holding other things relatively equal.
