Please HELP!!!

I really need some assistance. I have a laptop that I'm getting ready to load Win 98 On. When it gets ready to reformat it says ""Setup cannot install Windows 98 on your computer. An error was detected while formatting your primary hard disk partition". What do I do? I recognizes my c: drive. I've done the fdisk and deleted the primary partion and then reset it but that didn't help. Any suggestions or maybe someone's already had this kind of problem? Please help!!!

Have you tried using the tools from the harddrive manufacturer?

The harddrive manufacturers have disk tools which can test, format, etc when the normal methods fail using win 98 boot disk
