Vaio PCV7764 drivers

I have been trying to find support for a Vaio a friend has. He started getting a system disk error at boot. He tried to recover and it would go through the morions and again system disk error! He brought it to me and I did the same. Finnally got it to reconize the hard drive and then during recovery CD1 got a new error! (unknown error) Thinking maybe some of the XP files on the image got dinged I installed XP Pro. The drivers for the chipset, the modem, sound and USB are not found. Tried seaching for drivers on recovery disks and Sony web-site. Can't find anything. This is the only place I have found so far that has threads for these computers.

Cant seem to find anything on thier site as well, no match for that model number.

Is the number listed in more than one place? This is a desktop, yes? The closest I an seem to find is a PCV-RX770.

I have the same problem. The closest I can get on thier site is PCV-70xx,90xx. And then it says there is nothing to download. It is a desktop. On the back of the computer it says Sony Model PCV-7764. Not sure how old think only 2 years.

Hey, all. Figured it out. I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is why we can't find the drivers:

PCV-7764 = PCV-RXA842

Search for the PCV-RXA842 on Sony eSupport, and you'll be good to go. Here's the hardlink for your convenience:
