Systems Win XP Professional : Video Card = No Games ?

Hi Guys/Girls
Currently I have a problem with Windows XP Professional.
The problem being when running any games like World of Warcraft, Counterstrike the screen flickers show shades of irrelevant colours and I see lines.

Scenario : I have the exact system running win98SE please rule out hardware problem as games run with no problems at all on win98SE. I can play movies at full screen with no problem at all too be it avi. wmv. rm. etc.

Video Card : Nividia FX5600 256MB(This card is not new I have been using it for 9months now on 98SE with no problems)

Methods tried : Installing latest drivers. Installing latest directx. Changing screen resolution.

Please aid with advice. I have had windows XP professional for 1 year and I have never used it till now due to the need for better support for USB devices/programs. Its becoming a headache now. Thank you

Have you tried changing the display settings for your system and those of the game to the same resolution.
Then there might be refresh rate issues for the monitor.

Not much help but a start.

might try checking to see if the games giving probs have win xp patches....i have had issues that a simple patch cured right up.

also can you give us some more info....such as what model/brand of monitor you have...what refresh rate it is set at and what settings you have the vid card at.....

this sounds like a hardware nproblem at first thought.....have you run any diagnostic programs to test it?

how about system ram?try memtest 86+ look for errors...i have had a bad stick of ram cause some of the strangest problems.....download ultimate boot cd from site with same name...just make it all one word....there are some nice programs on it to test different parts of your system.

Hi Guys

Thx for the fast replies.

Monitor is EIZO LCD 15 inch. Its capable of 75Mhz.

I am sorry that my first post is too short. Here is more details. I can't change the display settings for the games because they just hit the "flicker , lines" mode, once my system finish loading the game. So I have no access to settings for the games

sevenal. : thx for the advice. But I tried changing from 640 x 480 to 800 x 600 to 1024 x 760 in windows then load the games up but to no avail. I have also tried different refresh rate with each resolution from 60 to 75 but to no avail also.

evilphantomx : thx for the advice too. I am a bit confused. When you mean hardware problem I think you are refering to faulty hardware ? But as I have expressed in my first post. The hardware are the exact one that I used for win98SE. I didn;t change anything at all : ) . I just reformatted my drives and installed winXP professional. Its a bit hard to imagine hardware spoiling just over one night when I just played both games before formating and changing to winXP Pro from win98SE with no problems.

I am not sure if the hardware problem you are saying is the same one I am assuming. Are you refering that by installing different OS hardware will be spolit ? Please clarify. I have very little knowledge of such stuff. Also please paste the url for the window patches for the games or related stuff. Thank you
