look vary closely at the components ont he motherboard. you're going to be very careful to look for capcitors, the things that kind of look like little batteries, and see if they look like they may be "leaking" or like they have bubbled in any way. they should be straight virticle cynendars,a nd not oblonged or ovular in any way. if you see the bubbling/deformation, there is your answer.

PCCHIPS MB / Voltages

I got a PCCHIPS MB M863G V1.5 SiS741GX

I sold it to a friend of mine setup with amd 1900 512 ram onboard everything

Within about 2days of them running it, they were playing a game, it shutoff, smelt burnt, turned it on an hour or so later, was working fine, then they went to rip a cd, shuts off again, wouldn't power back on, light would flicker for a second and then go off, so i took the powersupply from my PC and tried it, it comes on, so i go ahead and order a power supply, i took the one i tested it with from my pc and stuck it in there.

So i'm trying to figure out why it burned up to begin with, so i installed a MB temp/volt reader, temps are fine

Voltages are nuts, Fishguy made a post with same MB, simular problem

Quote:

CPU consistant at 46 C
CORE 0 1.5v
CORE 1 2.54v (2.5v CPU lowest measured at 2.52v)
+3.3 3.36v
+5.00 4.20
+12.00 8.07 (WOA something wrong here?)
-12.00 -7.74 (average -6.73 over an hour)
-5.00 0 (something is amiss)
these are my readings from ITE Smart Gaurdian, i also used MBProbe with same readings about

VCORE - 1.7
VCC 2.5 - 2.43
VCC3 - 1.45 (lower than threshold & highlighted red)
VCC - 5.05
+12 - 13.69 (red)
SB3V - 1.6/2.46 (red)
-12V - Normally around 6 drops to 2.0 and .63 constantly (red)
SB5V - 4.73

I am pretty sure it isn't the PSU but the MB instead, but if those readings are correct, shouldn't the computer be smoking?

I went into the bios to get the temps, it doesn't show them all

VCore 1.7
VCC2.5 - 2.43
VDDQ - 1.4 (same as vcc3 i'm guessing)
VCC5V - 5.08
SB3V - 3.4

RPMS - 4000

CPU @ 50C
SYS TEMP @ 32 C

i have 1 dvdburner, 1 hd in the computer
and a few fans, 1 w/ lights on it.
