Hi all,

Would someone be able to shed some light on this,

I have a 120gb Hitachi HD, that's running as master, and has win xp pro installed, now i have a 10gb Western Digital HD that just has music on, that i'm trying to hook up so i can burn the music onto disc and then use the HD in another PC.

But my PC with the 120gb won't boot with this 10gb attatched, either as slave or cable select, it just get's to the 'detecting drives' then detects my 120gb and my dvdrw and that's it

Anyone have any ideas

Thanks

Hi Sevenal,

I'll try as you said, the 10 hasn't got a OS installed, also no it didn't come out of this machine, i bought it cheap for the music that's installed

Try CS for the 120 and slave for the 10

also dose the 10 have an OS on it, is it NTFS or FAT
and did it come out of this same machine?

Western digitals are a pain to make get along well with others, especially other HD's.

Try as Sevenal said, if its no go, try it on the second channel with the optical drive. You might have to try all master, slave and CS options on both channels till you find one that works.

jublee,

I'd set it up with the 120 as single drive (no jumper) on IDE channel 1.

Set the 10 as master (jumpered) on the same cable as the DVD slave (jumpered) on IDE channel 2.

Double check your CMOS settings, make sure that the drives are set to autodetect.
