Problem with laptop

Have a problem I need some help with. The power jack in my laptop worked itself loose to the point it would not charge of power up. I disassembled the laptop and soldered the jack back on. when i plugged the adapter into the jack, the charge light came on letting me know that it was working, BUT now it won't start up at all, not a wimper or nothing. the only thing that it does is that when i press the power button the geen drive lights flash on for a split second. Other than that, nothing. The only thing i can figure is i messed something up when i soldered the jack, but i payed special attention not to disturb anything else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.. Thanks

you may want to dissassemble the laptop again and check to make sure you didn't inadvertantly ground anything out after you reassembled it.

i hate to say but it sounds like you really may have cooked the laptop. if it's an HP or a compaq, which are notorious for those kind of power plug issues, you may have to kiss it goodby, though check to see if any warrenty may be left on it. just don't let them know what you did!

It's an older Gateway solo 9150 laptop. PII 366mhz. I mainly used for web surfing, so it's not a huge loss if it is dead. I'll probably just part it out and get a couple of bucks.. I tried to make sure i discharged myself while working on it. I'm going to try to remove the solder and the jack to mkae sure the solder isn't grounding with something. If that doesn't work, to the chop shop it goes.. Thanks for the reply..

If it turns out to be shot PM or EM me and well talk about the parts.

Definately take it apart and check, will most likely turn out to be something dumb. I have done the same surgery on a gateway. Its a tight little squeeze in there.

I wouldn't think it was serious. It was working when I took it apart and there aren't many wires/plugs to miss.. i'll try to get around to it hopefully tonight. I'll let you know how it goes..
Thanks

Ok guys, Still need help with this. I've replace the motherboard and cpu and it still won't start up.. ( I do not have a 100% proof the parts i replaced actually work, I was told they do. No way to check).. Is there a magic switch, reset button, etc.. I don't know about.. All i get are the two green light that flash for a brief second when I hit the power button... No hard drive, or anything.. Any Ideas???
