Kids cannot connect to ip games

i am posting this for a friend.. he as just got BTYAHOO broadband and they have given him a router to connct to broasdband via the phoneline.. the problem is he cannot connect to anybodys games via an ip address.. any ideas?

he is currently hooked up to the computer via a usb connection

find out if he's running any kind of firewall on his computer. if he can surf the web, he should have no problem connecting to games.

if he hasn't called tech support, he's paying for the service so he should do that and find out if they have some strange plan for a cut rate that disallows some ports. i have seen this before with providers who provide combo router/modems, and sometimes they have a really poor policy supporting anything other than web and e mail.

Thanks for the reply.. that seems to be the case with the no support... does anybody know if there is any way that he may be able to configure the router to allow all ports ect? he has a bt vogager 205 adsl router. any help would be much appreciated

he might want to check this site http://www.voyager.bt.com/205/prodinfo.htm
and see if he can gett he default pass/configuration to see if he can make the games work. it is highly likely his isp changed the default password, but there may be a way for him to reset eveything to default and get in.... though this may make the dsl router no longer work without the isp's specific settings in there. he can always say "i have no idea what happened, we lost power to the house one day, and when it came back on, i couldn't get internet!"

i mean, those things happen
