New Comp Prob (Again!)

My brother decided to order the exact same parts from my old computer for his computer. Got the parts in, put it all together, and get power to the mobo, but some reason no power is getting to the pci slots. Since the mobo is a Epox without onboard video, I put in a pci graphics card till I can get the drivers for the agp installed. I flip the switch and press the power button, and the comp fires up, but no images appearing on monitor or it going out of amber light mode. The fan on the process also won't spin if I plug it into the slot next to where the power goes in, it only spins if I put it on another slot. Any ideas?

i would look ver closely at the box and the anti-static bag for a very small part that may have fallen off of the motherboard when it was shipped, and also look closely ont he board with a flashlight and preferably a magnafying glass to see if you can identify and small parts with broken wires or maybe a spot ont he board that clearly had a part soldered to it, but the part has broken off.

it sounds like somehting that is part of the power circuit for the board is either bad or has fallen off. you should try to use an AGP card to see if that gives you a display, and verify that only parts of the board are getitng power (i would be surprised if you actually did get a video signal). if the problem really is isolated to the PCI/southbridge/IO portion of the motherboard, you won't be able to use your keyboard or mouse, and if you could get any kind of response at all, it would be from the AGP slot.

i also have one quick question: why do you have to use a pci card before you install your video drivers? i've never heard of that problem before, since standard VGA drivers should work for any video device.
