Kids From VHS Tape to DVD

Hi,
I would like to transfer our VHS home movies to DVD.
I'm using WinXP Home , have an uptodate desktop PC with a Sony +- DVD Burner.
I have "Nero Ultra 6" and the "ATI all in wonder 9800 Pro" video card.
I have tried to connect the VCR to the video card but the cables supplied with the card are only about 12" and I need close to 3' cables.
Do I need a software program to do this?
What should I look for if I buy longer cables?
Is there some kind of tutorial somewhere to explain what I have to do? The video card manual is very brief and does not explain much.

If you have any suggestions I will very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You can pick up longer cables at Radio Shack for little money. As to capturing video with your AIW video card, check out this site for excellent guides:

anken,

I envy you ! I've been drooling over that ATI card after reading some of the online reviews. I'm not a gamer, just want to use the computer as a DVR. Please let me know how this beauty performs.

NewEgg has it for $234.00. Santa, if you're reading this...

One note about the cables: keep 'em as short as possible, and don't skimp. Buy quality. This is for posterity.

From VHS to DVD

Thank you so much for your suggestion, Rob.
What a great site!
It's a little more complicated than I had imagined but I will manage somehow.
So, thanks again!

PC Fanatic,
yeah, we're pretty lucky to have this card. Had it since last Feb.
It was pretty pricey but hubby is a flightsim enthusiast and this card is great.
We built our desktop pc last Feb. (our first one) and got most of our components from NewEgg.
It all works great and we love it.
