upgrade a cpu?

remove fan/heat sink/cpu snap in new one?? that about it? i mean as long as its a compatable cpu for this machine?----------------------amd duron750/100 upgrading to Athlon 2000---------------------------sound ok to u?

At Home It depends on your mobo...

The Duron 750 is a 100Mhz FSB CPU and upgrading to an Athlon 2000 requires at least a 200Mhz FSB. So the maximum speed upgrade would depend on the FSB of the your motherboard. You can look up the specs from the manufacturer or simply google it. If you have a no-name board use software like Sisandra or Everest home edition to obtain the chipset info. You can post here and I'm sure someone get you your specific specs.

actually, athlon 2000 has a 266 front side bus, it was the athlon tbird that has a 200 front side... all double pumped 100 or 133....

in which case the reality is the athlon 2000 has a 133 front side bus, socket A form factor. so long as your duron is socket A, which i'm sure it is, your motherboard probably supports the xp 2000 chip, and if it is an older board the xp 2000 chip is probably the highest chip it supports.

you're all good if the chipset is either an AMD 760 or via 266 or 266a.
