what is it and what is it for? : fnqwff.exe

I have this program running in the background:

fnqwff.exe

doing a file search for this file shows me:

FNQWFF.EXE-128E8055.pf in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
fnqwff.exe in C:\WINDOWS\System32

i run windows XP pro w/ service pack 2 installed.

end tasking this process has no effect on anything except that prgrams, especially my dvd reading software, seem to run smoother.
i have no idea what it's for.
searching google and yahoo got absolutely no returns.
i could not find it on answersthatwork.com

i run ad aware 6 and it finds many things, as usual, and quarantining them does not prevent fnqwff.exe from appearing in my task manager.

could someone please help me?

have you tried looking for it and/or disabling it in msconfig, so it wouldn't start up again?

try renaming it also so the prefetch won't be able to run it.

you can run a handy little utility called xteq which will allow you to clear your windows prefetch list and after renaming the file it should be leared out of starting up when you login to windows.

also, try searchign the registry for that file, and see where it pops up. that should give you an indication of where it came from.

if you're not running any antivirus software, it may be a good time to start. often times viruses will create executeable files with random names so that they are harder to detect, and searching google doesn't come up with anything on that file name, plus it looks pretty random.

if you can end task on it and it doesn't effect anything, and if it actually is a virus, chances are that it is really easy to remove, so i wouldn't worry. the fact that ending the process makes your dvd software work better is a definite indication that the file requires additional attention, and it's probably not a good thing.
