fx5200 vs 9200se ...which ones better?

Okay i'm building a new system but getting a vid card is getting confusing. So i have an option buy a new radeon 9200se for 95 bucks or wait 3 months and by a fx5200 of my buddy for 70 bucks.I know both cards are crappy , but which one is less crappy, the nvidia card can handle directx 9.0c but far as i know the ati card can only handle directx 8.1 and also the ati has the slower clock speed. So hopefully one of you smart poeple can help me out here

This card for $79 will be significantly better than any of the two you mentioned (I hope it fits the price range):

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...164-022&depa=0

It can handle DX 9 (unlike the radeon 9200), and the performance is much better than a Geforce FX5200.

Check Tom's Hardware or Google some reviews on "Radeon 9600". This is the not the pro version (which is better), not the SE version (which is worse), and not the XT version (which is better than the pro).

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...229/index.html

When it comes to video cards, SE versions are generally worse.

You can get a refurbished 9600xt on newegg.com for $95 if you catch it at the right time. That will provide at least 3x the performance of the cards you mentioned.

FYI... 70 bucks is way too much for a used fx 5200. I don't remember where, but you can get it for $50 + tax/shippping if applicable. Try pricewatch.com.

Also, yes the FX5200 is crap. In fact, the whole FX line is crap imho. For high fps in half life 2, you have to play on direct x 8.0 with any card in the NV3x or something like that. Check anandtech review of Half life 2. Strange how the fx line supports direct x 9.0, but handles it poorly.

The ATI 9200SE and Nvidia FX5200 = about the same. Though, I'm putting my money on the 9200SE, because I'm sure the ATI 9200(regular) is better than the Nvidia FX5200.

o yah this is 70 canadian , i live in canada eh, but yah the fx5200 is from a friend and the 9200se is from the local comp shop. And i like both , ati and nvidia are so close it's really up to the person. But either way those cards are gonna be better then my AIW 7500 vid card now, especailly because it is pci .I will talk to the comp shop and see if he can get me an 9200 pro or 9600 for cheap if not i might go for the fx 5200.

Thanx and cheers
