their thinkpads are some of the better quality retail laptops, that is, package deals that don't offer highly customizable options.
their desktops, on the other hand, leave something to be desired. they are quality, but i hhave never seen them as more of a standard desktop solution. there is nothing wrong with them, and if you see one you like you will definitely get something that will be reliable for a while. since they don't make their self destructing hard drives anymore, you can be sure that any problems you have should be few and far between, and covered under warrenty.
it boils down to what you want. IBM caters to large business accounts, and their focus isn't on the retail end user. there's definitely nothing wrong with IBM computers, but for just something you are going to use for your personal life you can probably find somehting else with more features at a better price. that is, unless, you know where you can get an unbeatable deal, in which case go for it.
