their thinkpads are some of the better quality retail laptops, that is, package deals that don't offer highly customizable options.

their desktops, on the other hand, leave something to be desired. they are quality, but i hhave never seen them as more of a standard desktop solution. there is nothing wrong with them, and if you see one you like you will definitely get something that will be reliable for a while. since they don't make their self destructing hard drives anymore, you can be sure that any problems you have should be few and far between, and covered under warrenty.

it boils down to what you want. IBM caters to large business accounts, and their focus isn't on the retail end user. there's definitely nothing wrong with IBM computers, but for just something you are going to use for your personal life you can probably find somehting else with more features at a better price. that is, unless, you know where you can get an unbeatable deal, in which case go for it.

I have always thought, as Johnny, that Thinkpads are about the best lappy's you can get. Rank up there with Toshibas.

The older desktops ive messed with were okay, just not really top of the line for their time, they always seemed to be a few months behind.

I bought an IBM desktop for my wife who wasn't interested in anything high end. The worst of it was they didn't include an OEM disk for the OS and it didn't even contain a restore disk.

When I needed to reinstall drivers for the network card I was out of luck. When I installed an add-in card, it was not recognized thus refusing to work. Without incurring support fees, I was totally left without means to fix it. I checked their website for purchasing a system disk and found nothing.
