virus destroyed xp home etc---
I would like to use this thread, for I'm having an extremly hard time trying to get my hp zt1135 notebook up and running again. just a little over a year old the notebook came pre-installed with win xp home edition. some disguised mail spread the ripper virus, a teekids virus and a trojan through the system as well as on my hp desktop running win98-which is now up and running ok.
I cleaned it up using mcafee but it didn't work for the xp.
after closing it down then re-booting next day it asked that I type in the command enterpter--not sure what it was, and being a dummy, not looking it up, I just kept typing in different things.
next thing I know the error message, press h to retry hd or press any other key for other options. nothing worked, but i can go into the bios, but not safe mode. I have no install disk, only the oem recovery---which refuses to work---it will not install but stops at some point saying the process failed. for the longest time I could get no prompts, but now again I can get a c prompt. Tthere is also a setup, but it wants to set up win 3.1 of all things.
I do have a new hard drive, but I truly need the data from this one if there's any way possible.
Is there anyone out there who can advise me on this matter?
I contacted HP and MS, but both said the hard drive is bad, I do not believe this, for there is still quiet a bit of stuff showing when I type in dir---could anyone use this info to help this lady of 67 who would forevermore be grateful? Thanks much, Swamprosy
