Laptop Hard Drive Repai?????

I Was Wondering If It Is Possible To Repair A Laptop Hard Drive, And If So Where I Could Get This Done. I Have Seen A Lot About Data Recovery And Stuff But Not A Lot On Just A Straight Up Repair. I Am Not Worried About Any Of The Data On The Drives. And At The Prices I've Seen For Data Recovery It Would Be Cheaper To Buy 10 New Drives.
Thanx,
John

about the cheapest way to repair a hard drive, laptop or otherwise, is to replace the controller card with another one of the same type and version number.

this will work provided the original problem with the drive is a dead/malfunctioning controller card. yes, in order to go inside the drive and deal with the mechanical arm, motoy and platters reqires special environmental considerations to be taken to have a dust-free environment. data recovery laboratories will have the whole plexiglass box-with-gloves deal you see in movies and on TV, dealing with the items in a vacume or something along those lines. not to mention the special reading equipment to retrieve data from the individual platters.

home brew modders have methods for removing the hard drive cover and replacing it with plexi glass while adding a pretty HDD access LED inside the drive to make a very nice asthetic to a modded computer system (the effect of the entire drive glowing during hard drive access). of course this kind of mod is not for the faint of heart, but can be done withminimum-no damage to the drive without special equipment. however, this is not actually doing any repair action to the drive.

that's about my wealth of knowledge on the subject. yeah, you're better off buying a new one, or better yet attemting to redeem an OEM warrenty replacement if the drive is not past it's warrenty experation date. OEM warrenties don't require reciepts, so just find the manufacturer and ask them how to deal with warrenty issues.
