Um it would be great to know the brand and make of the sound card, but it might be because you need specific drivers for the card.Did the card come with a installation cd?

well i dunno what its called or i woulda dowloed the diver thing but w/e it just came with the computer its a hp pavilion 540n

Try going to HP's web site, and search for audio drivers for your system. (Search for all drivers for your system, and refine your search from there.)
