IRQ Not Less or Equal...how to solve?

1st time user of the forum, forgive me for my noobness...

I have this problem with my laptop, I updated my Norton Antivirus software, and it told me to restart, so I did. Now, problem is, the com keeps on restarting, and when I disabled the auto restart thingy, I get this message, IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL...what in the hell happened? And can anyone help to solve it? It seems a software IRQ conflict but I have no inkling on how to start solving it, reading the Microsoft webpage just caused me headaches.

I have just updated my com to Windows XP SP2, by the way...anyone pls help...

yeah, those are the absolute worst blue screens ever.

with service pack 2, all i can say is that i had a frequent blue screen problem with a laptop that i had uninstalled service pack 2 from, because it had tons of problems after installing service pack 2. i re-installed windows and updated everything except service pack 2, and it had tons of problems. finally installing service pack 2 fixed that. so, i'm thinking the best practice is to only install service pack 2 for windows xp after a clean install of windows.

the standard irql not less than blue screen troubleshooting method includes alot of things you can't do with a laptop, namely removing expansion cards. you're kind of at the manufacturer's will for driver updates as well, however i highly reccomend looking on their page for a laptop bios update.

look closesly the next time you see the message and see if it dorectly references a specific file or memory address causing the problem. if you can get the file you're half way home, as that should point you in the right direction for which driver is causing the problem.

as for a memory address, you can look in device manager and change the view to "view devices by resource" and look for which memory address range your faulty address falls in. keep in mind that the memory address may be different on each blue screen occurence, though the address may fall within a certain range each time that will tell you which device to look at. the address ranges are intermingled, so you will see things like the PCI bus sharing the address range with every single PCI device, or the AGP controller range sharing addresses with the video card. just try and write it down every time the stop error pops up and keep a running list, and try to see if you notice the error happening when you're only doing certain thigns.

good luck, these have to be the worst errors windows can give you.
