Outdoors Hellp need second opinion on my P3 celerystick cpu!!

Okay here's the prob, I recently bought a p3 celeron 1 gig cpu.I installed it on my board (which is an ASUS CUV4X) and i attached my after market heatsink and fan (designed for and AMD ATHLON 2400+).

My computer booted up with out a gliche , and i procceeded with the standard window s install , formating the drive and such.Buuuuut as i watched t.v while the hard drive was formating i heard what sounded ke something falling.I jump up to discover my heatsink and fan had fallen off the completely .I freaked out and turned off the computer.

Praying to the computer gods that the cpu was not toast.A visaul inspection revealed nothing , the cpu looked physically fine.so i reinstalled the heatsink and fan and tryed to boot.Nothing , no beep no display .Unplugged everything from the board to see if i would get some beep code ....nothing.

Finally i install my good ole p3 733 mhz and the system booted up fine.which makes me think the 1 gig celeron is dead , but i need second opinions before i huck the celery stick in the garbage.

But for now i will overclock my 733 to 825 and sulk.

Lol thanx and look forward to any responses.

You say you unplugged 'everything' from the board, does that include the PSU? You might try unplugging the PSU from the board and giving it another chance.

If it doesn't boot, it's probably dead.

Have you got another board or a friend that can test it for you as well?

Yup i removed everything except powrsupply and cpu .I even reset the bios , then put one ram chip at a time ,nothing.

All my friends got socket A or 478 boards , socket 370 are rare around my part of the country. Also a sad tid bit, the previous owner of the board fried the agp slot

I am very suprised the board is still running stable lol.But iam starting to think the celery stick is dead 'sigh'.
