graphics card problem

Hello.

The problem seem to be very common with this type of motherboard.

I also have a PC400 M925 series motherboard. Can't seem to identify the manufacturer anywhere - not in the manual, hardware or on the web. I tried to install the GeForce FX 5200 graphics card and also nothing happens, the pc won't boot - nothing on the monitor.

-Motherboard specs from manual as follows:
-Socket 478 for Pentium 4
-VIA VT8751 (P4M266) Northbridge
& VT8233 Southbridge chipsets that support AC 97 audio codec
& provide Ultra DMA 33/66/100 function
-Two 32-bit PCI slot, one 4xAGP slot
-Micro ATX size mainboard

-Windows XP PRO
-No onboard video/old card is Radeon 7000 64mb (I disabled this plus set CMOS to AGP & new card, correctly seated in slot, still won't work)
-New card is GF/FX 5200 - 8xAGP (Compatibility issue?)
-No problems with Soundblaster Audigy 5.1 card though

My pc experience is only limited to changing cdroms and cards so I hope the specs above is clear enough.

If there's anybody who has solved this issue with this particular motherboard, I'll appreciate very much if you can share with me your solution.

Thanks!

The logo at the top of the manual says PC400 SystemBoard but I'm not sure if that's the manufacturer. I ran Sandra 2004 and got ECS (EliteGroup Systems Co. Ltd.) as manufacturer showing the right code: 1131. Tried to get support from them but the reply was that this was not a valid ECS product. Only other info I can give from manual is that it's a P4 Mainboard M925 Series, V1.3 VT8751/February 2002

Thanx for your reply and hoping you've got a solution for me.

Hmmmmmm couldn't find your board online, but the board is not the problem , or atleast it shouldn't.But it might me the vid card , the FX 5200 is rated at 8x , sooo it might not like going down to 4x.Try an old card like a radeon 7000 or nvidia mx400.Jus to see if you get display.

Cheers eh

i agree, if your radeon 7000 worked and your FX5200 doesnt, sounds like you need to get a board that supports AGP 8X.

You might as well upgrade to a mobo with 8x AGP support anyways. You can find them everywhere for $50 or more/less depending on the options you want. I know it's expensive, but take the plunge!

Yes, you're all right. I've tried everything and nothing works. I do plan to upgrade my mobo soon. I was just hoping the old one would work with this graphics card.

Thanx guys! Appreciate the feedback...best regards!
