My CPU runs at 99% while playing games, then it shuts off...

So yeah, whenever I play certain computer games, after about 5-10 minutes, the computer just shuts off. So then I found out that with those games, the cpu runs at 99%. I have a laptop...its a VPR Matrix 180B5, it has windows XP home edition. Mobile Cpu with 1.79 GHz and 512 MB RAM. I dont have anything attached to the usb port, and I dont know how to find out what my motherboard is. Ive already done all of the cleaning and defragmenting that I can do. I know that VPR's are gonna be hot, because thats what they say. And with this laptop, the vents for the fans are quite small. I tried laying a towel under the laptop so that it dissipates some heat, but that didnt help. If you guys need more information about my computer, just let me know. I just need to find out how to fix this problem, it is really getting annoying. I still have 1.5 yrs left on my warranty from best buy, so Im pretty sure that I will have to take it in to be fixed. Thanks for you help.

Graham

i would try lowering the voltage a bit. on laptops the video cards are never that nice so graphic intensive games rely a lot on the cpu. try lowering the voltage a bit (unless it becomes unstable). even if you have to clock it down to like 1.6Ghz its worth it IMO to be able to play the games. but then again if your new to this, and if its under warrenty, then i wouldnt even bother messing with the bios i would just give it to Best Buy lol.

Yeah, I dont know much about lower voltages and clocking crap. I went to best buy to get a laptop cooler, and then i got a program where it reads my laptops temp. Before I got it, it was at 62 C and the after a while, it drops down to 47-52 C. But when I play a game, I watched the temp, and it slowly crept up to 62-63, then it shut off. I still got an extra 25 min out of it. Im gonna return it and buy one off of the internet that has double the RPM and CFM. Ill see how that works. But the funny thing is.....and just trying to play a chess game. No real graphics needed. Oh well...how do I lower the voltage on the b!tch?

Thanks, Graham

ps, im gonna TRY to avoid giving my comp to best buy

lol good idea. anyway you just go into your bios. on a mobile chip i dont know the voltage but i think it should be something like 1.5v so maybe you can change it to something like 1.4v. that wont help that much though. i highly recomend a better HSF.

You will want to bring that in for warranty. You don't want a defective product that will die on you 1 month after your warranty ends.
