i hate to say it, but it sounds like you've done all you can.
the other thing you might try is to update the drivers, though that is a long shot. what it really sounds like is that if the magenta isn't blocked and the ink is actually good, that there is a malfunction in the printer where either the electrical signal isn't getting to the magenta jet, or the jet itself is completely broken.
with inkjet printers since alot of the wiring rides on ribbon cables they can easily have a broken wire trace somewhere along the line with all the movement the ink heads do, but with no moving parts in the cartradge/carrier assembly the malfunction would have to be electrical in nature if it's only a single color.
what you might try is inspecting all the electrical contact points that the cartradges have with the ink carriage, and with an alcohol soaked q-tip cleaning them off so that the copper contact points are clean and free of any residual ink. there is a change this is causting the problem, though i would be surprised that the printer wouldn't detect this as a fault.
