Systems Comtroller question

Can I use my existing IDE drives (2) 80Gig with a new EIDE controller??

Help is mucho appreciated.

Yes you can

EIDE is backwards compatible all the way back to IDE. So even a new EIDE controller can go from 33MHZ IDE to 133MHZ EIDE.

FYI, your 80 gig "IDE" drive is most likely actually an EIDE drive.

the difference between IDE and EIDE is a few added features in "enhanced" IDE (EIDE) that were added back in 1996 or 97. I believe one of the added features that was also introduced was DMA 66 and the ability to use cable select, if memory serves. someone else is bound to know the exact changes, but all modern drives since at least 99, if not earlier, are EIDE. this would mean a safe bet that anything 20 gig or bigger is EIDE.
