AST J series Laptop

I recieved a bunch of used computer equipment today, Including An AST J series Laptop. The laptop looks In good shape, Except it's missing It's battery and Hard drive (Plus caddy). It had an ac adapter, but it's not powering up. Is this a dead laptop, or a dead ac adapter? I have no manual so I can't tell wether It needs the battery and hard drive or caddy in place to work. I would appreciate any Ideas.Thanks.

I Know this sounds Dumb or stupid but does it have memory installed or perhaps came loose some laptops require memory to be installed to power-up the laptop but sometimes power supplys go bad also does it have a light Led or anything most of mine do whatever happends good luck wish i had some more info never really messed with a AST Laptop.

The memory Is intact, It has a built in LCD display below the screen that Is supposed to display status messages, But no led of any kind. I've had trouble trying to open the case without breaking something, so I can't verify wether something is broken inside. I don't have manuals or schematics to pinpoint the problem, so I can't really do anything until then.

I'm beginning to think it's dead, Due to the fact that I haven't gotten any further responses. With Ivan on the way It probably won't matter anyway I think I will leave it to the mercy of the storm.
