installing Windows through usb?

Hi guys. I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows onto a laptop with no internal cd drive. As a result, i will have to install Windows with a external cd drive with usb 2.0. So how do i install Windows with a usb cd drive (if it's possible)? Thanks.

p.s. it has a floppy drive if that helps =/

Easiest way, technically, is to remove the HD from the lappy, hook it into a tower ( or desktop ) rig and copy the setup files onto it after you format the drive and copy the system files onto it.

The 2.5" to 3.5" HD converter cables to plug the lappy HD into the tower can be found for about $4 at most online resellers.

What flavor of windows are we talking?

What would i search for in the search bar on pricwatch for the converter? Also, i'm deciding on either to install Windows 2kpro or Windows XP Pro w/SP1 then upgrade to SP2. Thanks.

It is possible, as long as your computer supports the CD drive and Windows has the appropriate drivers.

Ok i just remembered that laptops are more compact than desktop PC's when you open them up. I think i'll just install it without disassembling the laptop. Can anyone please help? I really want to get this old laptop up and running. (IBm thinkpad 570e)
