CD not compatable?

I have some CD-RW 's and they work on my dads computor. I try them on mine and I get cd is not compatable. I thought all cd's work in a burner.

My burner says write 4x and read 6x. I bought cd's that say 1x 10x 12x

no not all media is ompatable with all drives. this was a problem back in the early stages of CD burners (sub 12x), and continued until this day, though th problem is drasticly reduced now. this again has popped up with the new wave of DVD writers and all the companies trying to get their media out there.

I know with my old 12x writer, I can't use the bulk cd's that have no label - have never got any to work at all.

make sure you got the latest firmware for your drive, and then if that doesn't work -sell them to a friend

oh also some high speed media will not burn below a certain rate - 48x will usually not burn below 16x

oh

That is what happen to me. I got no name CD-rw and it works with my dads computor and not on mine. Can you recomend some to buy for my old hp external burner. I have a sony multi speed 1x 2x 4x. It works, so if i pick up a no name with that speed do you think it will work? I wonder if its in the name or just the speed.
