To clarify your saying someone formatted your hdd and installed xp home over linux or they tried to dual boot your system with linux??? By can't get past the boot screen what do you mean??
I don't really see why any of this would cause your computer to sound like a siren normally thats something that would be related to your cpu overheating
boot disks can be made at bootdisk.com or you can use a win98 disk. If you still ahve the xp cd they used you can boot straight from that. Or you can use the linux disk you installed from. If it was "uninstalled"
you'll have to re-install it anyways.
