are you formatting the C: drive(system disk?)? If so just pop in the XP CD and you can do it in the setup process.

If you are talking about other drives, just right click on them when you are in windows and a pick the format option.

You can also do this in the recovery console with the diskpart command.

When you boot to the install CD, there is an option to run the recovery console.

emulation

I suppose if you had emulation you could run a floppy based utility like Paragon off a CD...

Many new cheaper systems are now being built without floppies...so we're gonna have to work out ways to do it using new tools...or non floppy tools anyway...

Apple has excluded floppies for a long time...

The day is coming.

Unless you have an old drive that you're worried about always try to use the /q command in 'format c: /q' to do it fast.

I don't know what the recovery console one is as I use Paragon for all my stuff now...it is a brilliant utility.
