BIOS problem: Improper Frequency Combination

Hi All,

I already found a related thread, but I thought I'd start a new one due to the age of the old thread. My workstation rebooted itself during operations, and afterward I am getting the following error during bootup:

-"System hung for improper frequency combination. Make sure the frequency conforms to the specifications of your CPU, DIMM, and other connected devices."

Here is my info:

Pentium III 800MHz
256 MB RAM
CPU settings: 400MHz, 600 MHz, Manual (no auto)
CPU BUS/PCI Freq.: 66.8/33.4 (for 400), 100.3/33.43 (for 600), and a list of 16 settings for manual.
Freq Multiple 6.0x
CPU Vcore 1.7v

How should this be set?

Thanks for any help,

Falcon42

Tricky

I dunno exactly...

You said it rebooted randomly and then displayed that message in the BIOS screen...

Sometimes, particularly with Asus, after a random restart, the BIOS will automatically set the frequency of the CPU lower than what it supports, just in case.

Just select the right higher frequency manually if that has happened....

I had a quick look at the mobo info on Asus...it supports PC-100 memory...that is what you have...so the mulitplier should be 8x...

Just gotta make sure that is right...

upgrade the BIOS - you shouldn't be having to set the speeds manually on that board as it supprts what you have. also check the manual and make sure that all the jumpers are set right - I had a board where you set auto vs manual by jumper
