New Vid Card

Just recieved my new video card in the mail, ATI Radeon 9200 SE, sure, not the best one out there, but I'm working on a budget here people!

On to my question:

Before ordering my card I knew that my computer had an integrated video card (that I could disable), and per the website, I could add/upgrade another one.

So, I order, and it arrives today, open up my pc (for the first time), get the card out, go to install it, and lo and behold, the card is MUCH too long to fit into the slots near the bottom of the chassy.

There isn't another slot. And where my monitor currently plugs in, is the integrated video/motherboard stuff. No card to remove.

Am I screwed? Or does someone have any suggestions?

Furthermore, I'm guessing that this card requires an AGP slot, and the ones that I have 3 of, are PCI?

yeah, if you don't have an AGP slot, you need a PCI video card.

what pc are you installing this into(or trying).

Compaq SR1020NX

Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz
400mhz front side bus
512mb ddr-ram
48/24/48 cd-rw
16x dvd

Other info if you need it.

It's got Intel's integrated graphics, allows up to 64mb of "shared" memory.

Not a huge pc gamer, but I bought City of Heroes, installed it, only to find out I didn't have the necessary video card. (Didn't even bother wondering what kind I had til then).

So, I hopped online to find one, found one cheap, ordered it... It got here today, opened up the PC, and it didn't fit.

sounds like you got an agp card but no agp slot....the agp slot is usually brown and it would be the first one and it is offset from the pci slots....(there will be more than one pci slot usually white but only one agp)

if this is the case then you will have to get a pci card or replace the motherboard...guess which will be the most trouble.

depending on where you got the 9200....they may(and let make sure you understand here..they...MAY...)take this card back and replace it with another...but don't be surprised if they do that they charge some kind of "re-stocking"fee and make you pay shipping also

Compaq SR1020NX----- I assume this is the one? you had it listed with a 2 instead of S, but anyway, it doesn't have a AGP slot, so you will have to go with a PCI vid card. Check with the place you got your card from, see what they recommend on returning it and then either sell it here (if you can get more out of it) or return and replace it with a PCI version. Usually a restocking fee will apply and they may let you out of the shipping, but most likely you will have to pay to ship it back, then they will rip you for the restocking fee then you will have to pay the extra for the PCI card..sucks...
