NTLDR is missing - have read other posts

I have a new Toshiba laptop purchased in Feb.

60 gig hard drive
xp home
512 ram
CD/DVDRW
SD flash drive
There is no A drive

I reformatted and put windows 2000 pro on the computer because I liked it better. This has worked fine for several months but had a few things I messed up. Somehow I removed my documents out of the lower start up menu. I wanted this back.

I used my 2000 professional cd and told it to overwrite not install a new operating system to repair files. When it completed and rebooted I had this message NTLDR is missing press alt ctrl delete to restart.

All of the posts I have seen are regarding NT XP or upgrading from 95 98 to 2000. The biggest thing is that I DO NOT HAVE an A drive. When I press alt ctrl delete it cycles through restarting and never loads anything more than a quick toshiba banner.

and the same message comes back up.

I have burned start up disks for both win 95 to cd and I have also tried to use the 2000 cd and made a boot disk on another computer. The computer isnt reading anything.

I tried pressing all the F keys one each time none bring any menus or options up.

I cant lose the data on the hard drive. I must find a way to bring this back up.

If anyone at all can help me please email me or post. I have all of the messengers and will even call if someone would like to walk me through any of this. thanks

Becky

This is for XP, but should work for 2k, as well:

Yeah, bugger

Don't worry too much dude there are options.

the winXP advice tends to revolve a great deal around using the CD as a repair disk through recovery console or something.

I have used recovery console, but it is difficult to use sometimes.

If you cannot get the advice in this forum to work, then visit:

www.ontrack.com for possible solutions to the data recovery need.

try booting off the Win2k CD to the recovery console, then use FIXMBR
