Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have uninstalled and clean installed the driver; I have switched keyboards, and installed the latest driver for the new keyboard. I even went into device manager, chasing after a remedy to a nearly identical error on a different thread i was reading. This person was prevented from entering standby or hibernate with a similar error, but it was a com port, not the keyboard driver. this person fixed his problem by going into device manager, usb controllers, usb root hub: properties: power management, and unchecking the box marked "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". unfortunately no such option was available for me with the keyboard driver.
really running out of ideas. i wonder if i have to go into bios...
