Does 5.1 sound card need 5.1 speakers?

Does anybody knows if 5.1 sound card need 5.1 speakers?. I'm having problems with these cards, I have a boston arcoustic speakers, on my sound blaster live works, but when I installed a sb live 5.1 didn't work. I dont know if it's the card or the speakers.

you don't have to have 5.1 speakers but you won't take full advantage of the 5.1 sound card without them. Are you connecting to the correct output port on the sound card?

Yes I've connected it to the right output. I've tried everything, from installing cd drivers, MSI internet drivers, it's listed on device manager and working OK. Don't know what else to do.

Also disable onboard sound if you haven't yet.
