Work What’s the difference between Mac & PC hardware that determents what OS you can run?

hehehe...package and...

Apple builds systems to suit their hardware...so buying an AMD chip and trying to run Apple would not work out i dont think.

peripherals like webcams and keyboards can be dual platform...

You've got it backwards here, buddy. It's the OS that determines what hardware it can run on.

Maybe you should figure out what the OS does to determine if it can run on particular hardware. HINT: If it can't execute its code on a particular machine, it can't run.

actually the difference between hardware on the mac and pc are very small. The difference is that Apple uses , used to be, Motorola processors instead of the x86 based processors used in PC's. Other than that, they have some rom images on a couple components to identify the system.

It is possible to take older ROM images from an older mac and use add in cards to use them in a pc, which then allows you to install up to MAC OS 6 - but with the I-Macs they introduced new chipsets.

If you look at OS X (apple), it is actually based around the Linux Kernal.

Food

I have been doing a little research on logic boards and Apple processors on the Internet and I found a Power Mac G4 & G3 processor upgrade card that goes into the pci slot. That made me think, is it possible to use the processor upgrade in a PC board and run Mac OS X. The point of this thread is that I want the best of both worlds, the reliability and all the cool applications (Final Cut, Garage Band) of a Mac and whatever good things there are about PCs (more of a Mac guy that owns a PC).

why not just but a mac from someone? I've seen people sell I-macs around here pretty damn cheap - but it's an odd town - a bunch of rich hippies with macs.... go figure
