how to recover WIN 98 cd key in MS DOS?

was a friend's computer and he lost recover cd.

Why, don't you have the WIN 98 cd? It's all there. If you can't run it in your computer, explore it in your friend's computer and see the documentation. Now if you don't have the cd or it's only pirated, that's is another problem( Unfortunately you did not mention if you you bought your computer second hand with out a cd or you install a pirated win 98 cd).

There is no cd key to recover because there hasn't been one inputed. You'll need to either find your old key or buy a new one

the only way to get the cd key (if you installed it but misplaced your COA, but I always seem to find mine) is doing it this way:

start > run > regedit

open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
open Software
open Microsoft
open Windows
now click on CurrentVersion
You will see a key with the cdkey on the right hand side
should be right below the product id in most cases.
