I was unable to find my anser on the net..

I've got a ... seems to be a socket 7 2.9v laptop

I was wondering if I got a used CPU PC Style and matched the voltage on the used cpu to equal the same voltage would it work?

Want to get a 300+ish PC Socket 7 2.9v used

It might work... and it might not.

Unless you can find specific experience with the type of chip that you have and a particular motherboard, then it's going to be hard to be sure if it will work or not.
