2 Operating Systems

Ok, so here is the deal.

I have 2 Harddrives, one 40 GB as a master (has win xp on it) and a 15 GB as a slave. Right now i just have it for storage. But now i want to have XP and XP Pro running in my machine. How can i go that. I think its called Dual Start up or something. Also i want them to be independent, as in XP woks with and only with its harddrive and so with the other windows.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

Exactly what do you want?
do you want to have xp home and in another hard drive xp pro and when you are using xp home let's say you don't want to even see the other hard disk.(with the other installation of xp pro)

Or did you just meant that you do not want both WIndows in same hard drive.

If you want you can also get some help at microsoft site and search for
dual start up and things.

I can give you some tips too but need more info.

What i want to do its leave my Home Edition in (C like it already is but i also want to habe Pro in my (F drive. That its a second harddrive i have. I dont really mind if i can see the F: drive while working in home, i just want to be able to choose what windows i want to run at startup. I have also looked in Micosofts page bu they only show XP with 2x or stuff like that, but no "XP" with "XP".

Thanks carlos

its actually easier than you might think..... though ive never done it with two seperate drives. but let me warn you, if you install windows on you F: drive it will ERASE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE CURRENTLY ON IT. you can just back it up though (or just put it on you c: drive). just reformat your F: drive! just pop in xp pro and tell it you want to install on F: and delete the current partion (might take a while to delete the partion). just wait a while until its done installing, then your good to go! anymore questions, feel free to ask.

well, when i partioned my harddrive into half i had one running 98 and one running xp (back when xp just came out and not every program would run on it). when it boots up, it has a menu that asks which operating system to log in to. looks kinda like this:

Windows XP Home
Windows XP Professional

Please pick what Operating System to boot into.

and it gives you like 30 seconds to choose which version of windows to get into. if you dont choose anything, it just boots from the first one on the list. (in this case Windows XP). your welcome for the advice, just tryin to be friendly! if you run into any problems just ask.

All you need to do is install XP Pro onto your machine, in a different location than XP Home is now. The second harddrive is a good candidate.

Windows already has a boot option menu, but, since you only have one option, it doesn't appear to you.

Installing XP Pro to the second harddrive will not destroy the data that is already there unless you choose to format the disk. Nonetheless, I would suggest moving that data elsewhere -- and formatting the disk during Windows setup.

Oh, and it's called dual boot. Plenty of resources if you want to do a Google search.
