CD Ripping/Burning Question

I am trying to get a few popular songs WITHOUT the vocals, and I am finding the only way to do this is to buy the karaoke CD with said song on it.

Most karaoke CD's are on a disk that I have never heard of, a CD+G... My question is this....Can songs that are on a CD+G be ripped and manipulated once on your computer, or are they protected somehow?

Also, if anyone knows how to get popular songs with NO VOCALS other than karaoke, I would appreciate it.

I run a comedy website and we are planning to do some song spoofs.

Thanks again...

you can probably get the midi version's of the songs nad I know for a fact there are several sites out there that have them available. You'll just have to google it. However using a copyrighted song on your own site can leed to those pesky legal issues

I'm not sure, but I think I remember from my brief stint in college that MUSIC can not be copyrighted.... It's the lyrics that are copyrighted. I might be wrong, but I think that's right.

Midi won't work for me, I need the actual music, minus the lyrics/vocals.

well, the thing is:

1. music is copyrighted along with vocals, the company making the karaoke cd has to deal with the record company.
and
2. you should be able to rip it..... if your cd-rw drive can read it and it is in cd time format (meaning burned by the time, not by the size of the files) then it should rip. if not, check out http://www.download.com and try to find something that will!
