i have seen some of the most rediculous things happen to linksys routers because someone wanted them to do one thing or another that they weren't supposed to do. no matter how horendously messed up the router was after that, hard factory restets always got them back to where you could fix them.
if you've already gone through the steps of the full reset, not the simple flash reboot deal, and it's still FUBAR, there is a chance that more than just the ROM or flash is faulty. all the router is is a NIC, linux style router on a very slimmed down processor/motherboard (really not sure what the architecture is) with a EEPROM for storage and flash for configuration. the EEPROM would be the chip you might be able to replace, but i'm 99% sure if the flash isn't holding your config, the cost for repair is more than the cost of replacement.
