Networking

Ok the deal is that i own 3 computers and i want to network them all. 2 of them are XP Home Edition and 1 is a Professional. I dont have DSL but i am planing to get it in the future. Now 1 of the Home Editions is a laptop. And the desktops are preatty far away, one being in the master bedroom in the second floors, and the other being in the garage in the first floor, the other side of the house.

Any ideas,

Carlos

I'm assuming your using dial-up and want them all to be able to connect to the internet at the same time?? Considering your already planning on getting dsl you'll need to get a router. With the distances between the computer being as great as it is wireless would be the way to go. Pretty much what you'll need to do is make one of your computers the connection/server and install internet connection sharing. This will be your main point and will always have to be online in order for the other computers to reach the internet.

To make the connection between the other two computers you'll need to have network cards {wireless in the two stand alones and a wired or wireless in the main box} you hook the in port of the router to the main computer and the other two would be the on the out side. {someone else can explain better especially for wireless}

Thats about the only way to share an internet connection for the 3 computers, if you just want them networked to share files then you can skip the internet connection sharing and just hook the router up with each computer on its own port.
