Blue "STOP" screen when trying to install OS!!!Any help appre.

Hi, I’ve created the folloing computer but I’ve encountered a problem during the OS installation. The computer specs are as following:

- Intel® Pentium-4 Processor 3.2 Ghz CPU [512K Cache, 800MHz FSB, Hyper Threading]
- Asus P4P800-Deluxe i865PE Chip 800FSB w/5.1 Sound, LAN, IEEE-1394, USB 2.0 8x AGP Motherboard
- 1GB Dual Channel [512MB X2] DDR-400 PC3200
- Nvidia Geforce-FX 5700 256MB w/DVI + TV Out 8x AGP Video
- [Serial-ATA] Seagate 120 GB 7200 RPM SATA-150 8MB Cache Hard Drive
- All cables are rounded etc for better cooling.
- Power Supply is 420W
- 8X DVDRW
- 16X DVDROM (Was not ON)
- 52x CDRW (Was not ON)

Everything was smooth until I started installing the operating system. I have tried to install win xp OS, and after the formatting the HD, and the driver installation. The Installation is supposed to resume after the reboot. However here it did not happen, it took me straight to the STOP blue screen.

My initial taught was either due to memory or the video card. So I switched the memory slots and nothing worked. The next thing I did was I got brand new 256MB SAMSUNG PC3200 DDR400 (which is listed compatible with the motherboard im using) and a brand new Video Card (Nvidia MX440). I’ve tried and replacing both of them but again no luck, still get the blue screen.

As I was left with only HD, Mobo, and the CPU to inspect I did the HD, which was the easiest to do, and after trying 2 more HD same thing happened. Now I’m left with either MOBO or the CPU. I believe it’s the mobo as I heard it gives problems. What do you guys think it can be before I go and see other mobos and cpu’s??

Any feedback would be appreciated.

thanks

I have found that in the past that i had problems in stalling xp . So i did it the old way I installed a older operating system like windowsME or 98 SE and after installing that I over wrote it with a xp windows disc even though the other os we;re fat 32 file systems the xp cd still gave you a choice of that or NTFS on installing and that worked great for me. Remeber after you have me or 98se in stalled bring up windows and put your xp cd in and do a new install not an upgrade. If this xp cd is that type of cd

What does that bluescreen say?

I mean that determines what you do...if says there is no valid formatted partition then you need to go in there and reformat it with a utility like fdisk or gdisk or whatever, then use format c: /q

this will do it fast so you do not have to pace around the place...

The hardware is usually really tough...you should not worry about that straight away.

The main thing is to deal with the formatting issues etc with good softwares and techniques.

Paragon partition manager has a great diskette and that is the one I would recommend.

But DOS disk is ok.

a:\dir

if it says no valid partition that is a problem.

a:\format c: /q

yes

Then it should do it in two seconds.

Then go into WinXP setup and specify NTFS if you want to.

==========

You said you had a SATA drive. This complicates it somewhat. You will need to put drivers on the floppy for the SATA drive you are needing. It has been about a year since I did that with a WD SATA drive...so I cannot tell you how to do it...but it is possible.

Then do the DOS commands as above.

Modern partitioning diskettes will take the labour out of it...so may be worthwhile to buy Paragon being an example.

All the best
