No Icons

A friend asked me to look at her computer, stated had problems connecting to internet. I checked all the connections to all the drives, reseated all cards....NIC, Modem and RAM....everything appeared to be ok. The problem is the icons on the quick launch are all blacked out, if you hover over the blacked icon it will display the text but no picture of the icon. Also noticed this, when I went into start and looked into programs......programs are listed but no icon for selecting files. Any thoughts? thanks

Iv'e seen this befure but can't remember if it was a ram problem or virus. But if you have an antivirus program run it once.

You could try this. I have used it on 98 a few times when icons get screwed up.

Delete the icon cache file. I this it is called SHELLICONCACHE.dll

reboot, it will take its time comming up as it is rebuilding the screen icons

if all else fails..... reformat. thats how i solve a lot of my comp problems!

Just out of Curiosity... Did you check your display settings ???

Sometimes it may be a simple problem.
