Speaker Help

A friend of mine just bought a new system....an HP Pavilion a510n....Anyway...it didn't come with speakers so he hooked up the speakers from his old system, which were working perfectly on the old system. They won't work on the new HP however. I have told him every setting to check that I know of.

Any ideas?

If it helps, he says he doesn't even hear the "dial up" dialing when he logs on to the net (Yeah, he still uses dial up.)

first off modem sounds don't usually come from your speakers they come from a speaker on the modem and if he wants to hear those he will need to turn up the volume on the modem settings

secondly check to make sure the drivers for the onboard sound are installed properly, check the device manager to make sure there is no conflict and check to make sure the device {sound card/onboard sound} is installed properly

open the volume control panel and make sure nothing is muted and the sound level is turned up. I'd also double check the connections and any switches {I've accidently plug speakers in the wrong spots}

I assume there is no sound at all..or is it just from cd's?? or just from wav. files???
