CD-RW/DVD drive not found

I just purchased a dimension 4600, and it hasn't recognized the drive , I've sent Dell a couple e-mails and they have replied with articles and tutorials for me to visit that are less than helpful. My next step is to call them, but i figured maybe someone would have an idea?

thanx

if ur hard drive and the cd/dvd drive are on the same cable, u will have to set the hard drive jumper setting to master and the cd/dvd drive jumper setting to slave or cable select. This is assuming u don't boot from disk every time u start ur computer. I hope i helped.
P.S: u might want to check out motherboard jumper settings (I don't know much about those)

The computer came with this drive or you added this drive?

If it came with it, it sounds like thier problem.

If you added it, it sounds like you got your drive jumpers wrong. Make sure you dont have two masters or two slaves on the same channel. If the CD is on the same channel with the HD, set the CD to slave.
