Kids Computer shut off, won't turn on

Last night, my computer mysteriously turned off on its own, my monitor was in screensaver mode and it was turned off and I didn't see if there were any error messages or anything of that sort. I thought that it may have become overheated and automatically shutdown. So, I waited awhile thinking that was the case, pressed the power button, and nothing. So, I thought it may have been the outlet it was on or that my power strip shorted out, and it wasn't that either. I tried the switch in the back, turning it off for a few minutes then turning it back on and then trying the power again, and it sounds like its going to turn on (no fans or anything, but you can hear it like it's about to, but just fades off), and my optical mouse lights up for a few seconds but that's as far as I have got.

I looked through some posts here about a similar problem, and I do not think the processor has gone bad because I had the exact same type of processor a year ago and it burned out because it became overheated, and my computer would still turn on- just nothing would load and no confirmation beeps would come on. I replaced that processor with a new one that was exact same type as the old, and has been running great ever since, but I do have an extra processor if that's the problem or if it is recommended that I try it. I think my power cable has gone bad, so I'm going to go buy another one just to try it since I don't have an extra on hand, and I'm currently trying to get in touch with a friend of mine who built my computer to see if he can help me out if need be. This is the first problem, besides my processor overheating, that I've had with this computer. I just wanted some extra feedback asap, and if you need any hardware info, just ask, and I'll be sure to jot it down- I'm posting this at school.

Thanks for the help!

You've probably either got a bad PSU (Power Supply Unit) or some capacitors have/or are going bad on your mobo.

Open the case and look at the capacitors around the CPU. If you notice them bulging or it if looks like they've got stuff "leaking" from them, then there's your answer.

Time for a new mobo.

Either that or if your good with components, and soldier save yourself $150 and spend the 20 cents to replace the compasitor(s)

Ofcourse needing a new mobo is always a good excuse for more power too! lol
