AMD nut is on a distinguished road
Systems new to all this

Hello,
I am a "novice " but really keen to learn!
I have just installed a Gigabyte ( KT600 chip )
and AMD 3000+.
I was told I could overclock it.
"to be honest I havent even heard of overclocking until I read up on it"
But it is possable to overheat and damage it !
What do I do to tune it to preform better.....or do I not bother ?
I dont even Know what bios settings to alter.
Any advice
it runs @ 2.17 now ...
Thankyou Steve

Yes, you certainly can damage your processor by overclocking it. I don't suggest casual overclocking of CPUs.

I'd suggest researching the abilities of your motherboard and processor. Reading the manual is always helpful; and, as well, there are many dedicated sites on the Internet to motherboard assistance and overclocking. You may want to start at the fora of AMDMB.com, which has both board manufacturer-specific and overclocking areas.

obviously it would be a good idea to set the automatic cpu overheat shutoff on your motherboard (if it has this) to something inside the cpu's temp. limit. you also need to know what speed your ram is and whether the 3000+ is 166 or 200mhz (i think it's 166 though from your ghz)

Hello Again And Thanks.
It,s a Gigabyte K7 triton with the 600 chipset Board.
My ram speed must be 166 as thats what I was told to set it at.
I don`t know much more!
I was hoping that I could get it running faster.
Its not slow now but I wouldnt mind learning about this stuff
And this seems like a good place to begin !
Thanks Steve

i dont know if your board has it or not, but my Abit NF7-S has an option in the bios to shut off the system if the cpu temp goes above a certain level.
