I have read all the posted items and answers for NTLDR, but none of this helps. I can not access the CD.
Brought a new hard drive to install and still get the same message.
I have Win XP Pro XP2500 and 1024mb ram.
How do I get access to the CD. Have tried everything.

Do you have it set in the boot order in your BIOS?

If all else fails, you can break out the six or so floppies to boot Windows XP.

I finally got the CD working, but now all I get are errors when I try and load XP.

The installation says files are missing. I have XP Pro and XP Home.
The file it says is missing or corrupt now is "syssetup.inf layout"

I'd suspect that there is something wrong with your disk or drive. Have you had any other issues with this particular CD-ROM?

no, it is pretty new. I finally was able to run seagate tools on the drive on another computer, but still can't get XP to repair or reload.

The error message I get now is the following file is missing or corrupt
"<windows root>\system32\hal.dll

found and copied this file from the other computer now kernal .dll files are missing

The fact of the matter is the the files aren't getting from your CD to the disk correctly or, perhaps, even, at all.

If the CD works fine in other computers, you're going to have to look to your hardware as possibly at fault. Check your cables and settings; if you can use known-working hardware, that would be helpful.

tried everything....you could be right...I will take it in to the repairers as it has me completely stumped. Thanks for the help anyway...much appreciated
