SATA and IDE Drive Probrlems

Hey,

I am having a lot of trouble setuping up my computer with a SATA and IDE Drive. I am using the IDE drive to install my OS on and my SATA Drive for storage purposes. I am using an MSI 865PE/G Neo2 (MS-6728). The problem is that when I plug in the SATA the system would not detect it. Usually when u plug in a new SATA Drive it shows u the SATA Configuration Utility but this one does not. I am not sure of wa to select in the BOIS for ATA Modes I have P-ATA Only, S-ATA Only and P-ATA + S-ATA. Currently its on P-ATA Only and the computer boots but i think if i put it to the other options the system would not boot cause it would keep trying detect my SATA drive. My SATA drive is a WD1600 and has 2 power supply connectors on it ( one is the normal connector and the other is the Special SATA Type connector) I supposed i am only supposed to connect either one of them because i can hear the harddrive spin. Please help me with setting this up ASAP. Thanx

Peace Out

My abit IC7 I had to get into the bios and enable SATA and boot other devices in order to boot to it. You might have some similar option you need to enable in your bios.

ruthless,
You are correct. You should ONLY have one power connector going to the drive. (Two conectors will destroy the drive!)

In the BIOS, I believe you want "P-ATA + S-ATA", and also right below it, make sure "S-ATA Keep Enabled" is set to "Yes".

Thanks you guys my problem is fixed. It fully detects it now. I had NO for boot from other devices. It was originally on yes but i changed it to no because i thought it would speed up the boot process. Thanx a lot for the help.
