SATA Hard drive

hey all i am new and i have a A7N8X-E Asus Deluxe motherboard, and i bought an 80 gig western digital Hard Drive. when i put in a boot disk to run setup for windows it only reads from the cd and ignores the disk. i went into BIOS and changed the first one to floppy which it was already there by default and then it still didnt work. so i made a XP boot cd and when it ran the CD it says that i have no hard disk drive. So i make sure the cables are in and everything was good and stil nothing..can someone help!

You need to install the SATA drivers that came with your motherboard.

When you first start to install windows it will ask if you have 3rd party drivers that you need to install. When it asks press F6. A little later it will ask you for the floppy with the drivers on it.

That's what I would try (copying the contents of disk 1 and 2 to floppy). The file you need is named Si3112r.sys. Make sure that one is on the disk.

You'll need more than just the "si3112r.sys" You'll also need the "Txtsetup.oem" at least.

Better yet, visit the Asus website and download the latest. Ignore the 'utility' included:
Download

Place the following files on the disk, if you can find them:

si3112r.cat (shows driver is digitally signed for Windows)
si3112r.inf (Tells Windows what to install later in setup)
si3112r.mpd (used for Win9x)
si3112r.sys (driver for the controller)
siisupp.vxd (used for Win9x)
siwinacc.sys (SATALink driver accelerator)
txtsetup.oem (used to install XP)

The three bold files you should absolutely have on the disk. The others may not be required. All files listed above should fit on the disk.
