SG, enemy territory is a freebie download so yes it would be legal.
i would try downloading frome a different source and reinstalling. it sounds like it didnt install correctly or it got corrupted. although "sendpacket" sounds internet-ish

Have your Patched the Game to 1.02 This Patch Has fixed alot of the game problems but the guy from earlier sounds right could be a Internet Problem i would recommend Uninstalling the game and reinstall Fresh then Patch with the update.
